THE section of Plexiglas that covers Williams’s class portrait in the Hallway of Excellence at the University of Toronto has since been scratched so badly that his face is now unrecognizable. It’s a fate shared by the class photo of Paul Bernardo, whose smiling face was obliterated many years ago.

The university has no plans to fix the damage.

1. Many years later, the police would find the book LSI Guide to Lock Picking during a search of his Ottawa residence. This visual guidebook to picking pin-tumbler locks begins by teaching beginners how to re-pin locks, before advancing to lessons on how to defeat them. It is especially interesting that Williams had developed such a peculiar interest and honed his skills at picking locks at such a young age, if it is true—as he has maintained—that he did not begin breaking and entering until twenty-five years later.

2. Although it has been misreported that John Meyers Jr. was the recipient of a distinguished Order of Canada award, it was actually his father who had received the award in 1987 for his fund-raising achievements with the Ontario March of Dimes. A well-known advocate for the disabled who has a street named after him in Stirling, the elder Meyers required the use of a wheelchair. He passed away in 1994.

3. During a recent visit to the site, I was unable to find anyone at the flight training center who was employed there in the late eighties or had any recollection of Williams attending the school.
